See ZIP 33019Gutter brightening is the cleaning of the outside face of your gutters to remove tiger stripes, oxidation, and dark streaks. Clearing the trough does not touch those marks. Fast Pro washes the face of each run with a gutter-safe cleaner and a low-pressure rinse, so the gutters match the rest of your roofline.

Every brightening includes
Photos of every runSun and salt air leave Hollywood gutters streaked faster than a typical inland Florida city, especially close to the Broadwalk and the coast.
Painted gutters oxidize under Hollywood's sun the same way they do anywhere in South Florida, but salt air changes the timeline. A beachfront gutter near the Broadwalk, exposed to both sun and salt carried off the ocean, often chalks and streaks faster than an identical gutter a few miles inland near the historic downtown core.
We test a hidden spot before we start, since the finish on a century-old Hollywood property, some dating to Joseph Young's original 1920s development, has had far longer to age than one on newer construction. Runoff from an algae-prone tile roof adds to the streaking on the gutter face below it, and on beachfront homes, salt deposits can leave a hazy film on top of the usual dirt.
Canal-front neighborhoods inland of the Broadwalk see a milder version of the same salt exposure, worth factoring in even though they're set back from the open ocean.
We test the downspout side of the run first, since it usually sees less direct sun and salt spray than the open face and shows us closer to the real baseline color before coastal exposure is factored in. On a beachfront condo, that baseline often differs more from a downtown historic home than the few miles between them would suggest.
A gutter that's gone a few years without attention on the Broadwalk often shows the difference most clearly right where the run turns a corner, since that's where salt spray and runoff tend to collect rather than wash straight off. A hidden test spot low on the downspout side, shaded most of the day, gives us the clearest read on what the finish looked like before years of sun and salt left their mark.
Tiger stripes look like dirt. They behave like a stain, because they are bonded to the finish.
Painted aluminum gutters slowly oxidize in the sun, which leaves a thin chalky layer on the surface. Rain running off the roof carries dust, pollen, and particles from the roofing. That mix sticks to the chalky layer and dries into vertical streaks. A garden hose will not shift them, and neither will a pressure washer, because the problem sits in the surface and not on top of it.
| Mark | Looks like | Usually caused by | What we do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tiger stripes | Black or gray vertical streaks | Oxidized finish holding roof runoff and pollen | Apply cleaner, work it in, rinse at low pressure |
| Chalky oxidation | White or gray powder that rubs off on your hand | Sun and age breaking down the paint surface | Clean and brighten, then check the finish underneath |
| Mildew and algae spots | Green or black dots on shaded sections | Damp, shaded gutter faces under trees | Treat and rinse the affected sections |
| Overflow stains | Brown streaks below a clogged downspout or corner | Water spilling over a blocked gutter | Wash off, then fix the cause with a gutter cleaning |
| Rust | Orange or brown spots at seams and fasteners | The metal breaking down | Not removable by brightening, we flag it for repair |
One handles what is inside the gutter, and the other handles what shows on the outside.
| Gutter cleaning | Gutter brightening | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | The inside of the trough | The outside face |
| Removes | Debris, pollen paste, grit | Tiger stripes, oxidation, surface stains |
| Helps with | Water flow and overflow | How the house looks from the street |
| Done | Two to four times a year | When streaks show, often with a cleaning |
Start with the gutter cleaning if the trough has not been done this year.
Several things work against a gutter finish, and they stack.
If your roof has dark streaks, the gutters under it will keep streaking until the roof is cleaned. See our roof pressure washing page.
We work in sections so the cleaner never dries on the finish.
Debris comes out by hand before any cleaner goes on. A full trough sends dirty water down the face of the gutter and undoes the work.
Shrubs and flower beds under the gutter line get wet down and covered.
A small patch on a low, out-of-sight section tells us how the finish reacts, and whether the paint is sound, before we do the rest.
The cleaner goes on one section at a time and sits just long enough to release the streaks.
Stubborn tiger stripes get a soft brush or pad. We do not scrub hard on the finish, because that scratches it.
The face and the underside of the gutter get a gentle rinse, then the plants and the ground below.
You get before and after photos of each run, and a plain note on any section that would not fully clean.

Heavily oxidized gutters may brighten but not return to like-new. The test spot tells us first.

It depends on the feet of gutter, the number of stories, and whether the home is beachfront, canal-front, or farther inland. Call with your address and we'll have a price ready for you.
It depends on the roof size, material, and salt exposure. A beachfront condo and an inland bungalow are different jobs. Share your address and we'll price it by phone.
The visit that counts most is early May, just ahead of the wet season. Plan another between October and December once hurricane season has wound down.
Yes. Salt air along the beach speeds up oxidation and algae growth compared to a drier, more inland property.
We cover the city end to end, from the Broadwalk and beachfront to the historic downtown core and the canal-front neighborhoods inland.
The 2017 storm caused real damage across the city. If your roof hasn't been checked since, a cleaning is a good time to spot anything that needs a closer look from a roofer.
Generally, yes. West Lake Park's inland properties deal more with mature tree canopy, while Broadwalk homes deal more with direct salt exposure.
Yes, along with the rest of Hollywood. Share your street and the closest cross street when you call us.
Often, yes. Salt air speeds up oxidation beyond what sun alone would cause on an inland property.
Generally, yes, given the direct salt exposure, though downtown's older gutters have their own wear from a century of sun.
There's no hard line, but homes directly on the beach or within a block or two typically show faster streaking than properties set back farther inland.
Corners and downspout outlets usually show it first, since that's where runoff and salt spray tend to pool rather than run straight off the face.
